Key West Weather Key West is world famous for its beautiful weather. Rather then summer and Winter, Key West has dry season, which last from November to April, and rainy season from May to October. From November to April only 18 - 33% of the annual rainfall occur. The Temperature in January has a 69-degree average, and in August 84 degrees is the average temperature. One Disadvantage of Key West and the Florida Keys is the risk of a major Hurricanes and tropical storms. On Average Key West gets 1.7 tropical storms a year. A hurricane category 3 or higher can do significant damage to the island and to the lives of people on the island. Hurricane season Starts in June and runs though November. Thunderstorms are very popular in the Keys during June to November, and make up most of the rain during the wet season. Thunderstorms can occur anytime and usually only last a few minutes, but can have dramatic amounts of rainfall. Waterspouts can occur within the thunderstorms. A Waterspout is almost like a tornado but they occur on the waters. Waterspouts rarely hit the land, and if they do have minimal damage. Key West is truly one of the sunniest spots in America. On average there are 300 days of sunshine a year. And is the warmest spot in the country during the winter months, with a 69-degree average temperature and a water temperature of 65-70 degrees in January. In August the water temperature can reach 90 plus degrees, making it feel more like bath water then Ocean water, while the air temperature remains about 84 degrees. |
